Ken Efta | Principal Consultant & Solutions Architect

“It’s very rewarding to work with so many smart people who are passionate about what they do.”

Role at Allyis

I’m the principal consultant at Allyis, and in my role, I have the great fortune of being involved in high-level business consulting and strategic planning with clients, as well as the opportunity to be involved in the technical strategy and execution of solutions.

Experience & Approach

I have a background in English Literature and Language, so my formal education has been in writing and the way people communicate (whether in fiction and poetry or in expository composition). Although it may not seem immediately obvious, I’ve been able to leverage this awareness of rhetorical situations in my technical career: making the intent and detail of business and functional requirements more clear to stakeholders and technical teams; experimenting with communications in social-computing scenarios; and applying technology and human processes to solve business issues.

A Favorite Project

Our team recently delivered a proof of concept for a social community based around health care and wellness. The technical platform was based on SharePoint, and we had great success discovering ways to “cold-boot” content on the site by sourcing content from key social channels via their APIs and endpoints. These included Twitter, SlideShare, YouTube, and Google Blog search. One key requirement was to provide an editorial review and publication process that allowed health care professionals to review and approve content prior to appearing on the live site. We were able to provide a very rich user experience by simply aggregating the great wellness content already out there in the social channels.

Fun Fact About Me

I’ve trekked and climbed in the Himalaya (the Langtang region of Nepal) after doing a lot of mountaineering and backpacking in the Washington Cascades. I have two young kids at home, so I haven’t done many big trips lately. But I’m very excited for the day when the kids are old enough to start coming on hikes and backpacking trips with my wife and me.
